Transis Sitecount is a free (as in beer) tool for translators to estimate web site translation or localization projects.

Sitecount gets a website address or URL and parses all internal pages returning the number of words, characters (with and without spaces) and word density for each one of them.

Sitecount retrieves also the number of words in title, alt text, meta-tags (description, keywords) and link titles.

The user is able to save the results to a CSV file (use Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc to open it) or the entire textual content to a text file.

The software was written in Java therefore you can run it on Windows, all flavors of Linux, Mac Os X or whatever tickles your fancy. You need JRE 6 to run it or you can download the bundled version.

Transis Sitecount è un programma gratuito per i traduttori che permette di ottenere una stima della grandezza di un sito in vista di un preventivo

Sitecount legge l'indirizzo inserito dall'utente e attraversa tutte le pagine del sito contando i caratteri (con e senza spazi), le parole e la densità dei caratteri nelle parole per ogni pagina in parte.

Oltre al testo visibile, Sitecount conta anche il testo contenuto nei tag title, meta (description e keywords), alt e title dei collegamenti.

L'utente può salvare i risultati in un file CSV (apribile con Excel o OpenOffice.org Calc) o salvare tutto il contenuto testuale del sito in un file di testo.

Il programma è stato scritto in Java e funziona con quasi tutti i sistemi operativi (Windows, Linux, Mac Os X, ecc.) che abbiano installata una versione di Java superiore o uguale alla 6 (scaricabile qui). Se non volete scaricare Java o se il programma, per qualche arcano mistero o baco, non funziona, scaricate Sitecount con Java incluso.

WARNING / ATTENZIONE

This is NOT a perfect tool and it WON'T parse flash content, javaScript, images (this is why OCR was invented after all), some php and asp driven pages, or maybe it won't work at all.

We developed it for our own devious plans to rule the world, it worked (kind of), so we decided to share it with the community.


Questo strumento NON è perfetto e NON funzionerà con siti sviluppati in flash, che contengono Javascript, non riconoscerà il testo delle immagini (per quello c'è l'OCR), non funzionerà con alcuni siti asp o php o forse non funzionerà affatto.

Lo abbiamo creato per delle esigenze interne, ha funzionato e quindi abbiamo deciso di condividerlo con la comunità dei traduttori.
